This soothed my heart and spoke to my soul. I lost my brother on Good Friday this year and was doing the very thing, listening to the birds and Merlin, on an east facing deck, on an organic farm in southeastern Saskatchewan (Douglaston organic, outside of alameda , Sk.)

Dear Lara, I'm so sorry to hear about your brother. It is amazing how nature provides us solace at time like this. Picturing you on your farm makes me happy though. I need to look up where you are. I hope to meet you too!!! Love Vera

Thank you Vera 😢. I so appreciate this and feel it right in the centre of my heart. Makes me cry (in a good way). I would love to meet you too:) Are you and Sue both close to Abernathy? Here is my number (306) 550 9181 . And I’ll definitely be in touch when I’m in the area. Sometimes I just need to go to Ketepwa when there aren’t a lot of people (during the week) to be by the water, and just listen/feel. I also need to visit my brother’s grave in Lemberg. He has some trees so that makes me happy.

Well ya got me in the feels with this one!

My back deck is my little sanctuary. I love the privacy the little brook behind us gives and listening to all birds that make their homes there. I had no idea how many varieties there were until you told me about the Merlin Bird app back in March, shortly before the passing of my dear MIL. I watched this post while Inara was napping, and it gave me goosebumps. As I have recently retired, and life has slowed down some, I have more opportunity to spend time on my deck listening to the birds and use Merlin almost daily, sometime multiple times a day. In all the times I have used it, I did not notice the spelling of Mourning Dove! After Inara’s nap, we were on the back deck doing “chalk” nail manicures and she looked up and asked me what bird she was looking at. I assumed from where she was sitting, she was seeing a hummingbird. She said No Grammy! Up top! I looked up on our roof and there was a Mourning Dove!

Thank you to Sue and Vera for sharing this simple story of the simple beauty of our land and my more than humans, reminding us how valuable they are!

Thank you, Mourning Dove…

Jerry uses this app regularly and would recommend it! we sit on our little porch with our coffee and check who’s hanging in our yard! Another reason I love this time of year cause the birds, the leaves , the flowers are wasting no time, so happy to be here!! Nature is so alive and excited! Another app I use mostly for plants but it will do birds and animals is iNaturist…Merlin is better for birds as it takes the song and identifies.

I love this. Even though I am not sitting on the porch with you and Bean the sounds of the birds in the background was so relaxing to listen to.

As I sit in my office working I can hear company friends outside the window.

As always thank you for reminding us how great nature and all it’s hidden company is.
